Practical and emotional decisions come with divorce

by | Mar 15, 2019 | Divorce

Making the decision to end a marriage is often taxing. You have to think about emotional and practical matters so that you can decide what you are going to do. Oftentimes, people think about this for a while before they take the step of filing for divorce. We can help you find out what you need to think about as part of your divorce.

One of the immediate decisions you have to make is where you will live. Will you remain in the marital home, or will you move so your ex can have it? The decision you make now isn’t permanent. It is possible for you to ask for the marital home even if you move out of it when you decide to end your marriage.

Another decision that has to be made quickly is where the children will live. This is often a contentious matter, but it really needs to be made quickly so that you can tell them the plan. Children need some stability in their life and knowing the custody plan will help them through this time of change. The arrangement you have now for this can also change in the future.

As you are getting ready for each hearing for the divorce, remember to protect your rights. We can help you with this but taking the time to mentally prepare for each one and knowing what options you have can help you with this. We realize this is a difficult time for you, but we are here to work with you throughout the matter.
