Planning can minimize the stress of divorce with children

by | May 31, 2019 | Divorce

When you go through a divorce, there are many things that you need to think about so that you can start moving your life ahead. One of these is that you need to be able to set up a stable home for your children. In order to do this, you have to think about yourself and them all at the same time. Everyone can benefit from you having structure set in the home.

As a single parent, all the child care duties will fall on you. This means that you will likely have to make some changes to the way that you usually do things. For example, you will have to bring toddlers with you if you need to grab something for dinner, and they are at home. Because of this, you need to try to plan as much as possible.

Planning when you are a single parent will quickly become your lifeline. It helps to ensure that you have things in order without having to rush around unnecessarily. It might behoove you to grab a notebook or planner and write out your plans for each day. As you do this, think about the routines that you want to set. These are going to be important for your children and should include some components that you had when they were living with both parents. For example, you might keep the same bedtime and pre-bed routine.

You also need to make sure that you are planning for your emotional health. You need to have time blocked off to deal with your emotions so that these don’t spill over into your relationship with them. If you are still in the process of divorcing, you also need to find time to think about the decisions you need to make regarding that.
