It is easy to fall into a rut with how you interact with certain people. If you are going through a divorce, you might have to adjust how you think about your ex because you aren’t married any longer. This split is a fresh start for both parties; however, you might still have to interact with each other if you have children. Determining what aspects of your behavior might contribute to troublesome interactions might benefit you as you work to make the positive changes you need.

Anger and rage are common during a divorce. You might feel as though your ex is pushing you to get their way. You might hold hostility because of the things they did that contributed to the divorce. In order to move forward and truly enjoy your life, you have to let go of those negative thoughts. By holding on to them, you are giving your ex power over you even if only in an indirect manner.

Guilt is another possibility. You might feel bad for the things that you did that caused the marriage to end. You can ask for forgiveness, but prepare yourself just in case your ex refuses. At this point, it is best for you to just forgive yourself, so you don’t have the guilt standing in your way of peace and happiness.

You will also have to let go of the romantic love you have for your ex. You may still care for them, but the divorce signals the end of the union. The sooner you accept this, the faster you will be able to move on and rebuild your life.
